A Case of Preconceptional Transabdominal Cervicoisthmic Cerclage

Abstract
The use of the transvaginal cervical cerclage for the prevention of pregnancy loss associated with established cervical incompetence is well accepted, However, there is a small subset of women with cervical incompetence for which the
transcervical
approach is not effective. In this group of women, there has been progressive world wide use of transabdominal cervicoisthmic cerclage operation, although it remains a specialized procedure. This operation has been usually performed during early
pregnancy.
In a patients with a previous failed transvaginal cervical cerclage due to IIOC, hysterotomy has been done at 27 weeks due to intrauterine fetal death complicated to placenta previa, placental abruption and transverse lie. Soon after hysterotomy,
transabdominal cervico-isthmic cerclage operation was performed. Now we present a successful conception and full term delivery after a preconceptional transabdominal cervicoisthmic cerclage. Breif review of literature is also presented.
